– Earth Day –

Each year Earth Day is celebrated worldwide to raise awareness about the globe’s most pressing environmental issues. UNPO plans to mark the day in the Hague city centre on 21 April 2007. A festive stand with information highlighting various environmental concerns and those UNPO Members most severely affected by environmental degradation will be displayed on the Grote Marktstraat between 9.00 and 18.00. Events will include games and activities for children, as well as traditional dance and cultural performances by UNPO Members South Moluccas and Southern Cameroons.

UNPO Members have provided first-hand information about their environmental situations and UNPO aims to utilize this day to inform the Dutch public and international community about the environmental perils UNPO Members are presently faced with, as indigenous and minority communities often bear the brunt of environmental exploitation and, as a consequence, live in some of the most adversely affected regions of the world.
